Updated: Nov 29

Nov 5: Working with Vedana - feeling tone

Ayya Anandabodhi from Parayana Vihara in Port Townsend, WA was our guest speaker tonight. She started her Dhamma reflection by talking about the two ways we can enter the Path: through faith/intuition or through a more intellectual route. Both end up in the same place and eventually encompass each other. She then described the weakest link in the chain of Dependent Origination: vedana, feeling tone. She describes how to work skillfully with this link.

Nov 22: The Noble Eightfold Path to the end of suffering - Right Effort

Sanghamitta discusses the four Right Efforts: to prevent or let go of the hindrances and to cause the arising and increase of the Factors of Awakening. Much time is spent on the Buddha's various methods of letting go of the hindrances.

Ayya Ahimsa passes on the emphasis of the Buddha of the gentle aspect of Right Effort, perhaps better translated as Right Endeavour. The Buddha said that he "crossed over the flood (became enlightened) by not halting and by not straining".
